Starlings are a species of lemur, lizard, bird cat monkey kind of alien furries.Lore of varjak is starlings obsessed with consciousness and individuality, unable to cope with the idea of their bodies and their selves as part of the bigger planet which they are molded from, scared of death, all these issues. Bodily autonomy should b important.Themes: Your thoughts to not define you (taken to the extreme, your consciousness does not mean much, but also it does, because bodily autonomy)
What defines you is your actions, what you put out into the world, its important to want, to know what you want, so you can put out, make art, etc. Your consciousness will be gone but the impact you have will remain. Influence others, love them, Love is to truly want freedome and love for someone, love people. OCD. Bpd. autism ofc. social stuff. gender equivalent /allegory for ROYBIV, completely interchangeable features (eye color can genuinely be changed and does not in any way effect how a starling grows , but still roles/prejudices around it. Not a race allegory exactly but fine if interpreted as such.Some veganism, ish. Starlings consume an insect-lizard like "big bug" type of species, furby looking ones dewey has a "pet" suffers loss, connects herself to this pet, understands, pet is not any more valuable... stories about dehumanization and valuing priviledge in imperial core over others elsewhere. example of soldier actually repenting, examples of their defense (and its wrongness)
